Mike Catt training the London Irish using the X170 Action Camera
01/02/2010 21:57:05

Mike Catt, Rugby World Cup Winner and coach of the London Irish premiership team went on a search to find an innovative way to improve his backlines ability to see what he can see. The answer came to him in the form of the X170 Action Camera. Now he can review each play from the player's point of view.

"It's just brilliant" was Catt's comment when first watching back Chris Malone's point of view after a quick run around on the pitch. Catt and game analyst Richy Whiffin are going to use the X170 Action Camera in training sessions throughout the season so we're hoping this can contribute to their continuing success.

Veronica is a Go-Karting Demon!
15/10/2009 14:39:41

What a fantastic line of business we are in when we can shut up shop early, shoot off down to the Go-Karting track and write it off as product testing! After the first Action Cameras go-karting showdown there's been endless banter back and forth about who's going to win the next race! Yesterday the team headed down to the track to finally put an end to this...

Seven of us from the UK office (sorry Pierre but you'll have to come over from France next time) took to the track with tension building. The race was on! Two 15 minute races with a break inbetween to talk it up some more, unfortunately Veronica didn't make it to halftime as she had to be pulled off the track for dangerous driving!

As we finished the final lap the results were released to show two winners... Yes, after all this, two winners; one for fastest lap - well done Warrick, and the other for best average speed, good work Robin.
But still, having two winners leaves so much unanswered! Oh well, we'll just have to have another day of product testing. Bring it on!

Action Cameras in the Telegraph Newspaper
07/10/2009 16:57:10

The Telegraph Newspaper wrote the following article on Sab Jhooti, one of Action Cameras directors, this was published on 6th of October '09:

In 2005, former IBM colleagues Sab Jhooti and Robin Parker began research into starting a business that focused on streaming home CCTV footage. It bombed. But through their investigations they stumbled upon an idea for developing a range of helmets with cameras aimed at the adventure sport crowd. It was profitable from day one.

“We wrote the greatest business plan you’ve ever seen for the CCTV company,” Mr Jhooti says, “but when we started Action Cameras, it was more about doing it on the hoof.” That was January 2006. By February, the business was selling overseas. “We ran the business from my bedroom,” he says, “and on one day we were shipping goods to the US, Israel, South Africa and Australia. We’d done no marketing but they were coming to us.”

Orders started coming in from extreme sport-loving France and Jhooti realised his company needed a French language website or risk losing customers to local rivals. It has gone on to replicate the site in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.

“Our first employee was actually French,” Mr Jhooti says, “and I would never have predicted that.” Today, sales in France account for 25pc of its business and the firm is regularly in the country attending mountain biking or skiing events, and last year it took a stand at the French Moto GP.

Modial du VTT Downhill MTB 2009
17/06/2009 14:48:59

Next on the jam packed Action Cameras Event Calendar is the Modial du VTT which kicks off tomorrow in the beautiful location in the French Alps.
It runs through to the end of the weekend and sees a range of Downhill Mountain Bikers tackling the tricky course starting up on the glaciers in the peaks of the Alps and continuing all the way down through treacherous corners and drop off’s into the abyss and eventually winds it’s way down into the stunning location of Les Deux Alps.

This is the event where all the top bike companies come to show off their brand new gear and let you trial it for free which makes for an excellent weekend for everyone involved! Of course you won’t be able to miss the Action Cameras tent with all the latest gear on show and if you ask nicely you may be able to take one of our cameras out with you when trialling out the next bikes.

Isle of Man TT 2009
10/06/2009 16:05:19

While there are still four more days of the Isle of Man TT remaining, it is easy to say that Action Cameras has had a fantastic time up at the event! Over the past week we have enjoyed spending time with all of the racers and spectators alike who are all up there to enjoy the racing and to take advantage of the one-way road system up over the mountain where absolutely anyone can take their bike to the limit without having to worry about speed limits.

Our trade stand has been continuously surrounded by bikers who were either intrigued by the action cameras or those who had returned to our stand to play back their footage onto our big screen in order to show all their mates what speeds they had been reaching and how low they were taking those treacherous country road corners!

Without a doubt our highlight of the event so far has been organising for Valentino Rossi's bike to be set up with one of our VIO POV1.5 Action Cameras! He arrived with a police escort, did one lap around the TT course with our POV1.5 on his bike and was soon after flown back out of the event. Keep an eye out for the footage!

We couldn't have hoped for a better time and for more interest in the cameras then we have had, already now when you watch all the riders going around the course we can spot a good number of them sporting a brand new helmet camera! They are all loving it and we are loving the fact that they are loving it!

With a just a few more days remaining of this years TT we are looking forward to kitting out at least a few more riders with Action Cameras and to also enjoying the rest of our time up here on the Isle of Man.

Thanks for all the riders who have made it such a success for us this year, we'll be seeing you again next time. Remember to keep sending us your footage!

Till then,

Ride hard, ride safe, record it all!

Batteries for Skiing and Snowboarding
12/01/2009 16:52:52

Are you taking your Action Camera out skiing or snowboarding???
I quick tip from us; you should use Lithium-ion batteries as these aren’t affected by the low temperatures. If you use regular Alkaline batteries then you’ll notice that the battery life will only be a few minutes as soon as you expose it to the temperatures.
The plus side is that (while more expensive) the Lith-ion batteries do last about 2 to 3 times longer then the regular ones.
So to make sure that your batteries can last as long as you do get yourself some Lith-ion Batteries!
Enjoy the slopes!

Even if you're just taking the kids out for the first time then an Action Camera is essential for capturing all those special memories.
Either way, please send all of your footage to us to make us jealous. The good news for you is that we'll upload all the best footage onto the website for everyone else to see.

New : POV.1 with 4Gb and 8Gb upgrades
02/10/2008 09:00:00

Action Cameras has figured out how to crack the code on an SD card to allow them to work with your POV.1. This means that you can now get up to 3hrs on a 4Gb card and up to 6hrs on an 8Gb card!

This amazing break through brings down the wall on one of the only shortfalls of the revolutionary POV.1 Action Camera – the limited memory space. You can now head out for a whole day of extremities and not worry about running out of recording time. If you already have a POV.1 Action Camera then we can get you these cracked SD cards and they'll work great with your cameras, and if you are looking to get a new unit then you can get these cards with your new camera right from the beginning.

We are really excited to let everyone know about this so spread the word and tell your friends that they can now double or even quadruple the memory space for the POV.1 Action Camera.

The kit has a vibration alert when the battery is low and there is a single socket on the transmitter for A/V signal output and power supply which reduces the hassle factor. New Product: Solid State camcorder Aiptek DV8800 (5 Sept 2007)

The Aiptek DV8800 is the new MPEG4 solid state recorder we are supporting. We've tested a lot of solid state recorders recently and this is the one that came out tops. It's a compact size, easy to use, robust and produces really excellent footage in conjunction with our Action Cameras. One thing that really impressed us was the way it responds to changes in light conditions. In addition to working great with our cameras other features of the Aiptek include: • Digital camera: will allow you to take still pictures up to a resolution of 8 Mega Pixels (3264 x 2448) • MP3 player. • Media station: You can record any kind of video input (TV, DVD and of course Bullet Camera) and display them back into the Built-In Screen. We like the Aiptek so much we have included it in most of our helmet camera package deals. Please note: There are other models of the DV8800 which have a cheaper price but they do not have the AV-In function. All ours do!
